That's why the first step to learn how to read in Japanese is memorizing all Hiragana, then all Katakana, and afterwards memorize as many Kanji as possible.

When you feel confident enough that you can always read Hiragana you can challenge yourself on reading Kanji, for each test you'll be prompted with a word using Kanji and will have to know how to read it using Hiragana, or the other way: from Hiragana you'll have to know the Kanji.
After trying to read any word, right or wrong, the app will always show you the translation, as it wouldn't be fun if you don't know the meaning of what's written. After testing yourself this app will give a score for your reference, and even if you make a mistake you can try to correct yourself with more retries.
